Graduate Student Progress

There's too much stress and struggle in graduate school. Clear vision of milestones, for everyone, will help.

Program staff need a better way to track student progress. They're the only people on campus without software built for what they do. Until now.

Smoother progress with less stress.
Better communication. Better supervision.

Some Prograds Users

Prograds connects the sides of the progress triangle

Student - Committee - Program

Students see and input information

Faculty kept up to date on progress

Program has progress all in one place

Prograds is first and foremost for students

Yes, it'll make tracking students and their funding much more efficient and reliable.

But first and foremost we built Prograds for students and their advisors.

Our mission is to help students finish their degree just a little bit sooner and with less stress.

Administrators, faculty, and students should be able to clearly see the student's pathway

  • Milestones due soon or overdue

  • What they're working on currently

  • What courses they've taken

  • Their funding and TA/RA work

  • Who's on the committee

  • Events like conferences, internships, training

Automatic Monthly
Reminders

Students and their supervisors get a monthly email showing upcoming and overdue milestones and requirements. Everyone is on the same page, up to date.

Ideal Dates & Deadline Dates

Deadlines are stressful. Programs expect milestones and requirements to be met at a certain points in the degree. So Prograds has ideal dates before deadline dates to show the timeline in a gentler way.

The Student's Canvas

Students need faculty to see their progress without feeling like they are constantly bugging their supervisor and committee. So at the top of the page, students enter Working On items and Events.

For students

You're in control

Information about your progress is hidden away in the program office, and it's probably up to date, but it would be nice if you could check it and take control of it.

Prograds lets you clearly see and take control of your path through the degree.

Prograds is built mostly for students. That's why the top part of the student progress page lets you document what you're working on. YOU get to input data: completion of milestones and requirements, plus events like conferences and publications. You can sleep easier knowing that your advisors are up to speed on your progress.

When you meet with faculty, they'll have your Student Progress Page up so you can start without a long update. You can put meeting notes in Prograds as an Event so nothing gets lost.

For Faculty

A simple dashboard of all your students with their latest milestones and what they're working on currently. Click through to each student's Progress Page.

No more annoying requests to the student or administrators for the information you need to help the student. And this makes it so much easier to write reference letters.

The best feature for supervisors and committee members is the student's "Working On" area. With a quick left-to-right chronological scroll through it, you're totally up to date before you meet a student.

For administrators

Complete Information Management

All your student information in one place

  • Approvals are all digital with automatic email notifications and an approval history log

  • Upload forms to milestones and requirements
  • Student file uploads
  • Automatic reminders to students and faculty
  • Spreadsheet-like editable tables of milestones, requirements, and funding
  • Export data or pdf reports by student or for the whole program
  • Email to any filtered subset of students

                             ... and lots more

Testimonials

Prograds Users

We can put you in touch with Prograds users: Directors of Graduate Studies and Grad Program Coordinators in a discipline like yours.

“It's been super helpful for us already, and we are for sure underutilizing it! I find that the younger students have adopted it and use it more than the older ones so I think that in the next year we'll see an even bigger payoff. ”

I designed Prograds after my years as a grad student and two decades of supervising students.

I wanted students to have more clarity and more agency as they progress through all the milestones and requirements in their program. And I couldn't believe we were still operating with 1990s technology (emails and spreadsheets) in 2020!

I was sure that my own department's students could progress more smoothly if we had a single source of up-to-date information about each student, available online to all of the key people, especially the students themselves. I know program staff and faculty advisors struggle with reminding the students about milestones and requirements coming due, so why not have automatic email reminders? And I think our best design feature is to have ideal dates and deadline dates for milestones and requirements.

I'm certain Prograds will improve student progress in any graduate program.
